Headlight Restoration
Cloudy, yellowed headlights don’t just look dated — they can cut your night-time visibility and cause a WOF fail. Our restoration process sands out UV damage and oxidation from the lens, then seals it with a UV-protective coating so your headlights stay clear for longer.
Why Choose Karbase Services
- Removes yellowing, cloudiness and UV oxidation
- Improves night driving visibility and light output
- Can help resolve headlight-related WOF issues
- UV-protective sealant applied to slow future yellowing

Our Process
- Inspect — Lens condition is checked to confirm restoration will be effective.
- Sand — Graduated wet-sanding removes the oxidised outer layer.
- Polish — Lens is machine-polished back to clarity.
- Seal — A UV-protective coating is applied to slow future fading.

Why Headlights Go Cloudy
Modern headlight lenses are made from polycarbonate with a factory UV coating. After years of New Zealand sun that coating breaks down and the plastic underneath oxidises, turning the lens yellow, hazy or rough to the touch. Cloudy lenses scatter the light so less of it reaches the road, and they make an otherwise tidy car look older than it is.
Restoration removes the damaged surface layer and brings back a clear lens without the cost of new headlight units, which on many late-model cars can be significant.
Signs Your Headlights Need Restoring
- A yellow or brown tint across the lens
- A frosted or chalky surface
- Weaker light on the road at night
- Peeling or flaking coating on the lens
- Headlight condition noted at your WoF
Headlight Restoration FAQs
Will restored headlights help with a WoF?
Clear lenses give the lamps their best chance of meeting the standards checked at a WoF. If a lens is cracked or the reflector inside is damaged, restoration won’t fix that and replacement may be needed. We’ll point it out if we see it.
How long does the result last?
Sealing the lens with a UV-protective coating after polishing is what makes the clarity last. Parking out of direct sun also helps.
Can you do this while my car is in for other work?
Yes. Headlight restoration is easy to add to a cut and polish or a collision repair.
