Signs Your Chassis May Be Out of Line
A chassis or subframe bent in a collision doesn’t always show from the outside. The clues are usually in how the car drives and how the panels sit.
- The car pulls to one side or the steering wheel sits off-centre
- Uneven or fast tyre wear after an accident
- Doors, bonnet or boot that no longer close evenly
- Panel gaps that are wider on one side
- Wheel alignment that won’t stay in spec
Why It Matters
The chassis holds everything in the right place: suspension mounting points, engine and gearbox, and the crumple zones designed to protect you in a crash. If it’s out of position, new panels won’t fit properly, alignment can’t be set correctly and the car may not protect you as designed in another impact. Getting the structure right is the first step of any serious collision repair.

Many can. We measure the vehicle and pull the structure back into position. If the damage is too severe to repair safely, we’ll tell you.
Will insurance cover it?
Chassis damage from an accident is normally part of the insurance claim, and we include it in the quote we send your insurer. See insurance repairs.
Is wheel alignment part of the job?
Karbase started out in 2005 as a panel beating and wheel alignment shop, so getting the car tracking straight is part of finishing structural repairs.
